dead broke release suite
client:
like a motorcycle
This is probably still my favorite project to date.
For Like A Motorcycle’s sophomore album Dead Broke, I wanted to convey the concept of being strapped in a simple, graphic way that would resonate with a lot of people. Enter: garbage, low-budget food. After years on the road, swiping single packets of peanut butter at every greasy spoon breakfast joint, I had the idea to pair budget-friendly meals with single-serve condiment packets to create the suite of images for the album and the six singles.
Drawing inspiration from the unmistakable bright yellow color blocking and black Helvetica of the Canadian brand No Name, I built actual pasta boxes for the back covers of both the vinyl and CD packaging to ensure no typography needed to be used. In fact, no digital typography was used in the entire album packaging. Everything, right down to the barcodes, was designed, printed onto packaging, assembled, and photographed. We even sold “Physical Digital Downloads” where we’d mail you a LAM branded Pasta box with a download code inside.
